My experiences and thoughts about Reiki

Going through the Degrees

I took my Third Degree or Master level in Usui Reiki again this month. I have now taken all three of my degrees from two separate Master/Teachers – Myles and Barb.

It is very interesting to have studied with two teachers. They have considerably different styles of teaching.  Barb attunes her students to more symbols than Myles did when I studied with him. She brings in symbols from other traditions as well as symbols that Spirit has gifted her with.

Attunements are how Master/Teachers impart the energy of the symbols of Reiki to their students. I liken an attunement to finding the sweet spot for a radio station. You can hear the music but there might be static coming through or blurry sound from another channel coming through until you fiddle with the dial enough to get the crystal clear sound of the station you desire. That is what an attunement does for you; it helps clear up the signal so you can transmit Reiki as clearly as possible. Attunements to different symbols are like adding sound waves from different instruments to the music – the guitar sounds great alone but when you toss in a drum kit, it can take the music to another place.

My experiences with attunements have varied from day to day and class to class. Some of my attunements were moments of time where I simply sat and intellectually knew that something was happening for me energetically. Other attunements have been intense experiences with visions and sensations and knowings. One term that I like for those  experiences is “Godshot”. You are plugged right into the Source/Divine during the attunement.

All attunements are beneficial regardless of whether you have a mystical experience or not. I have experienced healing crisis where I have become ill from the energy changes in my body flushing out the old, lower frequency energies. I have also experienced times of clarity and great activity. Now that I have learned a healing attunement process I am able to use a different technique to help my clients in addition to the hand positions and energy transmissions that I had in my old tool kit.

Anniversary

Reiki Meet-up is almost one year old.

The vision that Myles and I have of providing a venue for people of all levels of exposure to explore Reiki is being well served. People who have never experienced a Reiki treatment but are interested in learning have attended and been given an opportunity to learn and explore. Practitioners who have been practicing for years are also finding value in attending and networking.

We have discussed healing and the use of sound. It is a vast topic and one that I’m sure we will return to time and again. The January topic of discussion was setting up for a treatment. How the practitioner sets their space, what environmental factors they use, why the practitioner does or does not do something to prepare the space or themselves for a healing session. I heard  some people who are currently studying Reiki say they learned several considerations for when they start treatments. It was a wonderful affirmation of the information we are able to share with the community.
